Theological Journals, Part 1: 10/12/2022

William Whittaker’s “Disputation on Holy Scripture:” Dr. Whittaker engages on Judith, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom, and the Maccabees in the Apocrypha. John Jewel’s “Apology for the Church of England:” the “Life of Jewel” is coming to a close with approximately 13 years as a Bishop. Notes are taken of Cartwright. Some are said to be proud, seditiously and conceited. He dies with friends surrounding him and singing Psalm 71. Then, a list of encomiums are offered. ANF1—“Apostolic Fathers and Justin Martyr:” outlines are being taken of Irenaeus’ “Against Heresies.” The Gnostics are Bible-twisters, inventors, varied, and conflicting. Bizarre stuff.
