William Whittaker’s “Disputation on Holy Scripture:” Dr. Whittaker discusses the extra-canonical additions to Esther and Daniel, relying heavily on Jerome’s views of OT canonicity. This is some sterling scholarship. This was one of England’s great luminaries who still shines anew and with brilliance. John Jewel’s “Apology for the Church of England:” the “Life of Jewel” is prefixed to the “Apology.” Jewel’s step are traced from Zurich through his enthronement at Salisbury Cathedral to his “Challenge Sermon” given at St. Paul’s. Jewel has dozens of points of challenge inviting any Papist to rebut him on those points based on the first 600 hundred years of church history. One “use” of history is to “disabuse” Papist contortions thereof. Any takers? ANF1—“Apostolic Fathers and Justin Martyr:” the outline of Justin’s “Dialogue with Trypho” is continued.
