William Whittaker’s “Disputation on Holy Scripture:” Dr. Whittaker continues to illustrate varied textual variations, omissions, insertions and corruptions in the Latin Vulgate, a point ceded by the Louvain Papists, but rarely conceded by the Jesuit antagonist, Cardinal Bellarmine. And yet, in decadent Protestant seminaries, no Hebrew, Greek or Latin is required. Why is that? What are modern Protestant ministers largely unskilled in the original languages? (I'll never forget asking the first TEC clerk with whom I worked about his training in the original languages...he had none.) John Jewel’s “Apology for the Church of England:” Jewel is rebutting the charge that the English Reformation resulted in tumults and disorders. After denying the imputation, Jewel retails the same issuing forth from Popery in the realm of governments in Germany, France, Austria and Italy. Too bad the moderns are largely unaware of Papal arrogance. Hans Kung in "God" equated communist tyranny with

Halley’s “Bible Handbook:” discusses chapter 2 and sources for it. For Psalm 31, Prof. Calvin discusses universal goodness and mercy. The godly see and the blind avoid it. Zondervan Pictorial Bible: “Israel:” discusses David’s rise to Kingship over all Israel after the Civil War with Ishbosheth is settled. For Genesis 28: Prof. Keil discusses the children of Jacob. For Judges 18, Prof. Keil continues the story of Micah and the Danites. For Isaiah 14.24-32, Prof. Henry discusses the final, determinative, and divine decision—irreversible and irresistible—to conquer Assyria. ISBE on Johannine Letters, Prof. I. Howard Marshall notes how false teachers act—they claim they are sinless. They are loveless. For Mathew 12.9-21, Prof. Jamieson discusses Jesus’ excorcisms. For Romans 8.12-28, Prof. Hodge talking about the “groaning” and burden of creation. For Acts 2.14-36, Prof. Henry comments on Jesus being made Lord and Messiah, that is, proved demonstrably so. National Catholic Register (Nov 2022): in “Hispanic Base and Candidates Could Be the Key,” Edie Heipel assesses the shifting demographic of Hispanic voters for the Nov 2022 elections in the US. About 50% are not active Romanists, but Hispanics are increasingly Republican. Anglican Journal (Oct 2022): “New Help for Churches with Energy Audits and Grants,” the journo writes about studies on Anglican churches emitting too many hydrocarbons. Studies are underway. Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society (Mar 2022): in “Societally Derived or Studiously Prosecuted? God, Revelation, Education and David Payne:” Dr. Christopher Sarver destroys Mays’ biography of Bishop Payne on this point: Payne was a Bible-man which is not recognized by Mays. Nice article and well argued. Anglican Theological Review (May 2022): in “Reforming Tradition: Anglican Spirited Continuity,” Dr. Ross Kane works his way around and through the word “tradition,” or, “tradition” in its wide ramifications. William Whittaker’s “Disputation on Holy Scripture:” Dr. Whittaker surveys poor translations of several verses in the Vulgate, defended by Cardinal Bob Bellarmine, but concurring with Dr. Whittaker by several Romanist thinkers, e.g. Cardinal Cajetan among others. Clearly, textual criticism is on offer--Hebrew OT/Greek NT trumps the Vulgate, thus, by inference, constituting an attack on Trent, Session 6, inter alia. John Jewel’s “Apology for the Church of England:” Bishop Jewel defangs the imputation that the Reformers and Reformation taught disobedience to Princes and civic magistrates. He ably argues from many historical contexts, “Au contraire.” “Ante-Nicene Fathers down to 325 AD: in Clement 1, Clement adduces David’s confession of sin as an instance of humility.  Very applicable for 2022.
