Theological Journals, Part 2: 9/24/2022
Bibliotheca Sacra (Jan-Mar 2021): in
“Suicide and the Thief in John 10.10,” Dr. James Wisland is outlining the
leadup to Jesus at the Feast of Tabernacles and Feast of Lights, chapters 7-10.
The leaders are on the hunt for the Redeemer.
Bibliotheca Sacra (April-June 2021):
in “Creeds, Canons, Councils and the Contests of Tradition,” Dr. Douglas
Sweeney, Dean of Beeson Divinity School, gives an early survey of the Apostles’
or Roman Creed, and the 4th century Creeds. Basic historical review.
Modern Reformation (Sept/Oct 2022): “Arab
Christianity, Science and the Doctrine of Scripture,” an interview with Dr.
Wageeb Mikhail: Dr. Mikhail recites a 9th century Arab Christian
defending the authenticity of the Christian Scriptures and theology against an
Islamist Caliph—an academic affair between both.
Calvin Theological Journal (Spring
2022): “Theological Interpretation in Nigeran Prosperity Preachers:” Dr. Samuel
Okanlewon brings together his work on 2 Cor. 8.9, 1 Peter 2.24, and 3 Jn. 2 and
excludes mandatory wealth and prosperity advocated by the prosperity monetizers
and Bible-distorters.
Mid-America
Journal of Theology (Fall 2021): in “Should Effectual Calling and Regeneration
be Distinguished,” Dr. Cornelius Venema is wearily traipsing along on the topic
ad infinitum. Yet, he interjects an exquisite section on Biblical passages on
total depravity, bondage, and corruption. Vital and essential warranting
retrieval, reassertion, defense and advocacy in all spheres of living—individual,
collective as schools and churches, and in the national sphere.
Hedgehog
Review (Summer 2022): in “An Usable Past for a Post-American Nation,” Dr.
Johann Neem discusses the lefty Post-Americans who need to destroy the old
house of Americana and rebuild a new house. Neem argues that a few walls can be
moved separating Americans but the old house has a firm foundation. He’s
putting Post-American narratives against the Christian Nationalists’ narrative,
pinned on Trump. We’ll see where this is going. He faults both narratives yet
with qualifiers. ??.
