Theological Journals, Part 1: 9/23/2022

Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society (Mar 2022): in “Temptation of an Evangelical Theologian,” Dr. R. Albert Mohler comments on the secularization in cultural, political and educational institutions citing some valid volumes perhaps worthy of purchase. Looks like a must-read/must-have. Ordered. https://www.amazon.com/Gathering-Storm-Secularism-Culture-Church/dp/1400220211/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ZN4D9FFMWOWK&keywords=the+gathering+storm+albert+mohler&qid=1663960698&sprefix=albert+mohler+the+gather%2Caps%2C777&sr=8-1 Anglican Theological Review (May 2022): in “’As if possessing but one mouth’: How Irenaeus Christianizes Classical Harmonia,” Dr. Jack Franicevich discusses Valentinians and Gnostics. Anglican Theological Review (Aug 2022): “Editors Introduction:” this edition is dedicated to historical retrieval on Archbishop Tutu. The apartheid struggle in Southern Africa is on full view. Trinity Journal (TEDS, Spring 2022): in “Biography and Historical Reliability in the Gospel of John,” Dr. Te-Li Lau, NT Prof. at TEDS, discusses genre and reliability. Anglican and Episcopal History (Aug 2022): in “Black Radicalism in the Episcopal Church: Absalom Jones and Slave Resistance, 1746-1818), Dr. D.A. Dunkley notes how Jones pursued education at night, preludes and predicates to his ordination in the PECUSA (or TEC as is known today). Historiography (Summer 2022): in “PB and Lambeth:” we hear the ringing endorsement of the PB at Lambeth 2022 on the pansexuality concept. As expected. Table Talk (September 2022): “Christian Anthropology and the Moral Law,” Dr. David Van Drunen discusses sex, gender and race from Christian anthropology. Basic. Table Talk (Oct 2022): “Fortitude” Brooks Buser comments on the life-life courage and perseverance, amidst substantive sufferings and losses (2 wives and 4 children to death), of Scottish missionary John Paton. A good application of fortitude is applied to resisting the cultural tide of secularism. Standard Bearer: (Aug 2022): in “Nurturing our Pre-School Children,” Rev. Bruinsma comments on discipling. Standard Bearer (September 2022): in in “God’s Answer Concerning the Coming of Babylon,” Rev. Hanko concludes the article with a marvelous prayer by John Calvin at the close of him work on Habakkuk. A prayer as worthy as anything in our BCP. Standard Bearer (September 2022): in an “Editorial: Reporting Sexual Abuse: the Fatal Misuse of Matthew 18,” Prof. Gritters is laying a foundation for handling such cases in the church. Asking a victim to self-report based on Matthew 18 is to revictimize the victim. How should churches and Christian schools be proactive is the Prof’s larger theme. Bibliotheca Sacra (Jan-Mar 2021): in “Suicide and the Thief in John 10.10,” Dr. James Wisland gives a wonderful retrieval on John 7-10 and the Feast of Tabernacles. He also cites Jude 4-5.
