Princeton Theological Review (Vol.22, No.1, Spring 2019), in in “The God to Whom I Belong and Worship: Inversions of Imperial Power in Acts 27.9-25,” MDiv student, Christopher Palmer, again a youngster, compares Luke’s shipwreck account with Pliny’s Panegyricus, an account of Trajan’s commanding a ship (a nautical metaphor) and evincing the virtues of self control and masculinity in the Graeco-Roman context. Trajan is a man in control of the Empire, unlike Paul at sea. That was a curveball for this scribe, to wit, the comparison. We continue to get what was anticipated. That is, the lifting of the tail, the venting of wind, and the bad odors with a high hang time in the room. Soon enough, we’ll hear how Paul is distinctively “feminized” and “unmanned” due to submission to the seas, weather, and shipwreck. This is moronic. But trendy! How cool is that, bro? Clearly, the Princeton student has never been to sea and seen its powers. They let this pass muster at PTS? Tell me it ain’t so. Get the wee Lad aboard a surface vessel for a year and then he can talk about effeminate men who get unmanned. Sheesh. Themelios (Dec 2021): in in “On Being Soteriologically De-motivated,” Dr. Strange engages is discussing an odd thesis by Biebly—to wit, some postmortem opportunity for salvation. This is in the so-called “evangelical orbit?” Huh? It produces a Charlie-horse between the ears. John Owen’s A Discourse Concerning Liturgies, and Their Imposition, Rev. Dr. Daniel R. Hyde continues to exposit Owen’s cramped complaining about the BCP broadly and principially. Sorry, John, we’re not tossing the BCP after your long-talking.
