Protestant Reformed Theological
Journal 55,1 (Fall, 2021, pages 44-79): “’Committing the Truth to Faith Men’:
Centennial History of the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary,” Douglas
Kuiper continues his history by talking about finances for the seminary through
the Depression and WW2 years.
Reformed Theological Journal (Sept
2021), in “Psalm and the Christian Life,” Dr. Scott Swain, using Aquinas’s university
sermon on Psalm 84, argues that the Psalms located happiness in the Eternal
Zion, doing the bidding of Zion’s King and communion with the Anointed King of
Zion. Dr. Swain uses the Psalms to build this 3-point article.
Southwestern
Theological Journal (Fall 2021), in “THE OLD
TESTAMENT IN ACTS: A MACRO PERSPECTIVE,” Dr. Patrick Schreiner continues his
theme of OT redemptive patterns—from Jerusalem, to Samaria and the uttermost
parts of the world, a pattern of promises rooted in the OT.
The Biblical Repertory/Princeton
Review (Volume 9, Issue
1, 1837, pages 29ff.). James Waddel Archibald review Paul Henry’s
“The Life of John Calvin, the Great Reformer” (Vol. 1, 1835). Rev. Archibald exquisitely
notes the closeness between Calvin and Melancthon, the former knowing of the
latter’s timidity, but still cherishing the close and cordial relationship.
After noting this, one views the 1541 situation where Geneva recalls Calvin,
but he with reluctance accepting the call, acquiesces to the urgings of Bucer,
Capito and Farel. Calvin is still fearful, given when the Genevans offers
earlier.
Concordia
Theological Journal (Winter 2020), in “Confession of a Lutheran University,”
Dr. David Loy comments on Luther’s views of education for boys and girls, for
the sake of the city, church and state.
