Theological Journals
Westminster Magazine (Spring 2022): faculty
updates are given for Doctors Gibson, Oliphant, Poythress, Poirier, Rester, and
Van Dixhoorn. The publishing queue is very, very full. So very glad to see
these flourishings.
Modern Reformation (Jan/Feb 22), in “Christianity
in Ethiopia,” Dr. Frew Tamrat comments on the history of Ethiopian
Christianity, Coptic Christianity, Monophysite Christianity, Islamism in Ethiopia,
and the continuing relationship between the Ethiopian Church to Eastern
Orthodoxy. Protestant missions have established a presence there. Dr. Tamrat is
the Principal of the Evangelical Theological College in Addis Ababa. He holds a
Masters for Gordon and a PhD from Columbia International Seminary.
Westminster
Theological Journal (Nov 2021, 275-297): in “Puritan New England the New
Israel,” Dr. Richard Cogley again—politely—denies in full the thesis of Berkovitch.
But, the point has been made earlier and has been sustained, thus far.
Mid-America
Journal of Theology (Fall 2021, 7-34): in “Verbal, Plenary Inspiration, and
Bible Translation Method,” Mr. Josiah Walters has finished his belly-aching
over literal translations. On the grounds of logical consistency, he presents
instance of contradiction. It’s painful to read as one trained in logic,
grad-level logic. Thankfully, this article has passed.
Anglican
& Episcopal History (Sept 2014), in “Thomas Cole and the Episcopal Church,”
Dr. J. Robert Wright delightfully reviews the resolution of the vestry of St.
Luke’s upon the passing of Thomas Cole. The author calls it florid. We’d call
the author’s use of the term “florid” as hyperbolic. The resolution is finely
worded, well worded, and well done, befitting the loss of their beloved
Vestryman.
Churchman
(Winter 2018): in “How Jesus’s Cry from the Cross in Mark 15.34 Answered?”, Dr.
Donald West comments on the second set of responses to Jesus’s cry on the cross—one
piece is the rending of the veil in the Temple.
Protestant Reformed Theological
Journal 55,1 (Fall, 2021, pages 80-85): in “Calvin’s Only Letter to Luther,”
Rev. Cory Greiss explores briefly Calvin’s rather harsh judgment against the
French Nicodemites trying to avoid the persecutions of the Franco-Roman state.
Mr. Calvin, not everyone is situated to pickup themselves (and families), head
off into exile, and live elsewhere. We appreciate your zeal, but it lacks
practicality for all circumstances.
Reformed Theological Journal (Sept
2021), in “Psalms and the Christian Life,” Dr. Scott Swain concludes his lovely
article by noting how the Psalms form the bond to God, form virtues (often by
repetition of themes) and guide on the path to the Heavenly Zion. Touche,
Professor, touch!
