Morning Prayer

For Psalm 25, Prof. Calvin comments on David’s self-review of his entire life from infancy onwards, including a review of his manifold transgressions and wickednesses (BCP language).

Zondervan Pictorial Bible: Levites: after Sinai, they are a favored tribe. Moses and Aaron are of Levitical descent.

ISBE on “Letters:” comments on the opening, body and closing of ANE letters—there are 1000s of them. Too bad Graffies.

For Genesis 12.3ff.: Prof. Keil traces the travels of Abraham, Lot, and families from Haran to Shichim [sic].

For Judges 7.1ff., Prof. Keil comments on the reduction of armed forces for the conflict with the Midianites. Let the cowards and the despondent head to the rear so the forces can be pruned of such.

For Isaiah 10.5-19, Prof. Henry continues the forensic, granular review of Sennacherib’s puffy soul.

ISBE on Johannine Theology, Prof. I. Howard Marshall stressed the point: Christology is John’s focus, not ecclesiology or anthropology (e.g. Bultmann’s agenda-driven reduction).

For Mathew 8.1-4, Prof. Jamieson notes that Jesus told the healed leper to go and offer a gift to the priest which, presumably he does, but also proceeds to tell others of the great miracle.

For Romans 5.12-21, Prof. Hodge is deflating objections to imputation and handling them well.

For Acts 1.6-11, Prof. Henry comments again on the theocratic expectations of the Messianic kingdom.
