Edward Burbridge: "Liturgies and Offices of the Church:" Ch.3--Roman Lit...

1.     CHAPTER III. THE ROMAN LITURGY, 64-105. Sacramentaries: Ambrose’s (4th century), Leo’s (5th), Galasius’s (5th) and Gregory’s (late 6th century). There is uncertainty about the Roman Liturgy until the ninth century—held in the Vatican library. The earlier sacramentaries were revised by Gregory the Great although it only gradually replaced the earlier sacramentaries. Amazing—some very distinct phrases which appear in Dr. Cranmer’s BCP. Gregory’s book has invocation of saints with their commemoration.
