Millard Erickson, Ph.D.: "Christian Theology," 6--Theology and Language,...
6. Theology and Its Language, 127-149. One gets a discussion of theological language and verification analysis including an accusation of meaninglessness in theology and philosophy. The ground? Logical positivism. We hear of G. E. Moore, Bertrand Russell, William Hordern, Rudolf Carnap, Anthony Flew, A.J. Ayer, Frederick Ferre, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and analytical language theories. DPV—having trained in Wittgensteinian language theories by Harvard PhDs as a philosophy undergrad, it's all meaningless including these language analysts--one Prof. was accused of having a meaningless life, meaningless lectures, a meaningless PhD dissertation and the meaningless, student paper analyzing his language theory. The young undergrad got an A on the paper that trashed the Prof's life and words as meaningless. True story. SMH. So, here, we get Dr. Millard's effort to review all this. LOL.
