70ff. A letter is sent by Cardinal Wolsey to ambassadors in Rome—Steven Gardiner, Francis Brian, Sir Gregory Cassalis and Peter Vannes. It is dated 6 Apr 1529. It is bloated, verbose and dilly-dallies on the point of the King’s marriage. Wolsey understands that the Pope is giving to much of an ear to Charles V. In the lengthy circumlocutions, there are hints of a break and alienation of the English Church from Rome.
