Gregg Allison, Ph.D.: "Historical Theology," Ch.8--Interpretation of Scr...
1.
In the
modern period, we hear of A.B. Davidson, William Robertson Smith, among others captured
by their culture of subjectivism. JEDP, source, form, and redaction criticism displaced,
distracted and distorted the Biblical message. Alistair McGrath offered his “via
media” in A Passion for Truth: The Intellectual Coherence of Evangelicalism (Downers
Grove, IL: IVP, 1996). The International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (1978-1988,
a ten year project), James Packer, Walter Kaiser, Jim Boice, R.C. Sproul, John Gersnter,
S. Lewis Johnson, Earl Radmacher, Robert Preuss, Gordon Fee, Douglas Stuart, Kevin
Vanhoozer, Darell Bock, Elliott Johnson, Grant Osborne and others show that “Evangelical
efforts toward a comprehensive hermeneutical approach to Scripture were quite impressive”
(184).
