Evening Prayer (1662 Book of Common Prayer)
LECTIONS. John Calvin on the Psalms. Keil & Delitzsch: Joshua. Matthew Henry: Isaiah. Jamieson, Fausset & Brown: Gospels. Matthew Henry: Revelation. Dr. Robert Reymond: Systematic Theology. Prof. Berkhof, Systematic Theology: Soteriology. Dr. Philip Schaff, Apostolic Christianity, Medieval Christianity, Swiss Reformation and Creeds of Christendom. Westminster Larger Catechism.
For Psalm 11.7: “You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked.”
For Joshua 12 is finished.
For Isaiah 2.6-8, Prof. Henry lays out divine wrath wherein the wicked will beg for the mountains to fall in on them in suicidal wishes to avoid God’s wrath.
For Mathew 1.1-18, Prof. Jamiesson notes the sloth of the Sanhedrin theologians.
For Revelation 6.3-8, Prof. Henry talks about the wrath and terror of the Lamb seated on the throne.
For Bibliology, Prof. Reymond talks about the Pou Stw, the place where we stand
For Soteriology, Prof. Berkhof talks about regeneration and calling (again).
For Apostolic Christianity, Prof. Schaff tells one about Renan’s Life of Christ.
For Medieval Christianity, Prof. Schaff tells us the history of Scottish Christianity is noted by Tertullian of being in the regions beyond Roman control. Ninian and Patrick are noted.
For the Swiss Reformation, Prof. Schaff still obsesses on Grissons, Switzerland.
For the Creeds of Christendom, Prof. Schaff finished the Mogilus Confession, 1643, that openly denies justification by faith alone. Otherwise, commendable features on first view. Of course, Filique is noted. Again, the issue is about "authority and pre-eminence," not filioque.
