Bishop Gilbert Burnet: Reformation of the Church of England: 3.1.63ff.

1499-1560. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TME ON THIS VIDEO. IT'S AN HOUR LOST. Burnet takes some inexplicable and disconnected detour through French politics, Kings, concordats, Parliaments, and, of course, the relationship to the Man of Sin in Rome. France was a mess and so was the Papacy. Truly, the lusts for power, money, advantage, bragging rights, and juicing for higher ratings is the theme. Popes were hated and hated in return. Finally, Burnet after seeming to have lost his way from the Reformation in the Church of England returns in 1513 with Queen Catherine left behind as England’s regent while Henry is gallivanting off to France “in search of the chivalric rights of royal glory.” Ecclesiastes 1.1-2: “He words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem: 2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Or, in conclusion, hath the Man of Sin in Rome or the French Poohbahs submitted here? Ecclesiastes 12.13-14: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
