Bp. Gilbert Burnet: Reformation of the Church of England," 5.1.114ff

5.1.114-135. An interesting primary source is Cranmer’s taking or renewing his commission as the Archbishop of Canterbury upon Edward's accession, thus signaling that he holds his office only by the regency of Edward VI. Pure Caesaropapism. Also, to emphasize Edward’s regency, all the justices of the peace are recommissioned. The fascinating primary document (133), however, is the order of service for the coronation of King Edward, dated 13 Feb 1547. Details are given and it is rich with ceremony and symbols. Dr. Cranmer with London, Winchester and other bishops are central, of course. Scene: Westminster Abbey.
