Gregg Allison, Ph.D.: "Historical Theology:" Ch. 10--Character of God, 2...
SAMO. SAMO.
In the modern period, we get the usual blah-blah about the classical doctrine of God. The 19th-20th century Visigoths and Goths arrive with their swords and axes to cut off all attributes in the service of love. The Mike-of-815-low-IQ-Presiding-Bishop-of-the-TEC. Poor Mike is a slave to these Goths and Visigoths, be it Fred Schleiermacher, Al Ritschl, Al Knudson or even Hans Kung (booted from Rome). UPSHOT: modern, reckless, boorish, ill-tempered, ill-mannered, illiberal dogmaticians, belonging to the Know-Nothing-Party. The poor kids in seminary who serve as serfs. The bishops ain’t a whole lot better. Poor TEC's Mike is hapless and hopeless. Go back to the Bible, master it, and read the old authors and Reformed confessions. Who needs Mike of 815? As may be noted, and having specialized in declawing and defanging these illiberal elites, one is neither impressed, nor intimidated, nor desirous of chatting with them. Got those old boys’ books and have been there, have the coffee mug and T-shirts. Weary watching these Visigoths destroy previously held Christian lands, institutions, and seminaries.
