Theological Journals, Part 2
Calvin Theological Journal (Spring 2022): in “The Beatitudes and the Life of the Church, Gerard M, Cisar is nattering away about hungering and thirsty for justice—repetitious.
Mid-America Journal of Theology (Fall 2021): in “Should Effectual Calling and Regeneration be Distinguished,” Dr. Cornelius Venema is repeating himself on Turretin on the subject. Regeneration is monergistic and growth is synergistic with man growing to maturity and his ultimate destiny.
Global Anglican (Spring 2022): in “John Owen on the Dangers of Biblicism,” Rev. Rich Duncan (CoE, Peterborough, UK) has helpfully pointed to the Socinians a priori dislike for God’s justice.
“The Fundamentals—A Testimony to the Truth, Vol. 1: in in “The Mosaic Authorship of the Pentateuch,” Professor George Frederick Wright, DD, LLD, faults the Graffie-Cultists with failure to understand the legal system of Moses. That’s an interesting angle. He’s already faulted their deficiencies in textual and literary criticism.
“Theologians You Should Know: Apostolic Fathers to the 21st Century,” Dr. Michael Reeves gives the go-around between Justin Martyr and Trypho, Trypho making some concessions to Justin. The interesting point is that Justin confines himself to the OT.
Princeton Theological Review (Vol.22, No.1, Spring 2007): in “Justice, Mercy, and Forgiveness: Jesus’ Cross to Bare,” Sharon L. Baker offers her universalism and Socinianism.
Reformed Faith and Practice (May 2022): in “Geerhardus Vos and the Interpretation of Romans 1:3-4,” Dr. J. V. Fesko, Reformed Theological Seminary, Jackson, tours Matthew Henry and Robert Haldane’s repeats of earlier exegetes on the text and the natures of the Theanthropos.
Concordia Theological Journal (January 2022), in “Confessional Loyalty or `Should I Let that Subscription Lapse?’,” Rev. Scott Murray comments on Dewey’s philosophy of pragmatism and the philosophy of the Philistines—truth determined by what sells and does it work?
Journal of Theological Studies (Vol. 9, 1908): “Papias:” dealing with dates on the annunciation, birth, resurrection and ascension of Jesus.
Protestant Reformed Theological Journal 55,1 (Fall, 2021): in “The Perfectly Triune God,” Rev. Marco Barone continues to simply present the family idea as a commentary on the classical view.
Themelios (Dec 2021): in “Ben Sira’s Canon Conscious Interpretive Strategies: His Narrative History and Realization of the Jewish Scriptures,” Peter Beckman (PhD candidate), notes
Southwestern Theological Journal (Fall 2021), in “THE USE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IN THE APOCALYPSE,” Dr. Gregory Beale gloriously opens new vistas of OT themes in Revelation, heretofore unexplored and once utterly bypassed by a certain NT Prof at WTS. This article is a keeper.
Reformed Theological Journal (Sept 2020): Book Review of John R. Bower, The Confession of Faith: A Critical Text and Introduction (Grand Rapids, MI: Reformation Heritage Books, 2020). Cloth. $40.00. xx, 415pp.: sounds like a must-get. Gives over 200 pages of history on the process and strategies of the Westminster divines, the greatest Confession in English history.
