Morning Prayer (1662 Book of Common Prayer)
LECTIONS. John Calvin on the Psalms. Keil & Delitzsch on Joshua. Matthew Henry on Jude. Dr. Robert Reymond on Systematic Theology. Dr. Philip Schaff on the Swiss Reformation, namely, Ulrich Zwingli. Westminster Shorter Catechism, 71-80.
Prof. Calvin expounds Psalm 5.8-10. "8 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee." Total depravity is on view.
Prof. Keil takes the reader further into the weeds of the geography of the area and the Jericho River, attendant to the mighty miracle by the Mighty Hand of Omnipotence. Done with infinite ease by God, but not believed by the goats in episcopal and seminary leadership positions internationally. The elect believe in God's omnipotence, but the Reichstag of unbelievers try to impose their malicious unbeliefs on students.
Prof. Matthew Henry expounds and completes his comments on the Risen, Regnant, Ruling, and Refulgent Redeemer. John is commanded to "write" down what he is given.
Prof. Reymond briefly elaborates on "Paul's Gospel" (Gal. 1.11-2.21), a gospel given by the Risen and Effulgent Savior and received by Paul. It was not learned in schools, but was given from above--the interpretation of the facts of the Gospels.
Prof. Schaff covers the effects of the first disputation in Zurich. 600 attendees listened to Zurich's defense of the 67 propositions. The effects: priests marriage, the nunnery of Oetenbach was emptied, baptism was administered in the vernacular, and the mass abandoned. There were instances of iconoclasm. Another major result--the appointment of a second dispute for the same year, 26 Oct 1523. Clearly, the small city (compared to England and its Reformation) was advancing by the opening of the pages of the Bible to the people. As for the English bullies, Henry VIII, Wolsey, Warham, Fisher and More were building their Reichstag against such a movement.
The WSC 71-80 deals with the seventh through ten commandments.
