John Henry Todd, MA: "Life of Archbishop Cranmer," Vol. 2, 108-140

1549. This continues to show Dr. Cranmer's response to the 1549 rebellion in Cornwall and Devonshire--an armed and advancing tide of rebels in protest to the new English Prayer Book and attendant reforms or restorations. Notably, Cranmer tears into them--resonably, Biblically, historically--on their rudeness, ignorance, pride, and views of the Bible, purgatory, Latin and English services and more. He sees clearly that these 14 Articles are the work of troublesome clerics, a few civic leaders, and the ignorant and gullible mob.
