INTERVIEW: Bishop Edward Malcolm (Church of England Cont') and Rev. Dona...
BISHOP EDWARD MALCOLM, Church of England (Cont'), Reformed Prayer Book Churchman, and Captain on the Bridge, tells his story and background, said to include the Admiral in the Royal Navy who, in 1814, bombed a certain house on Pennsylvania Avenue in the American Rebellion. Also, a brother of the Admiral was a Royal Marine and Colonel who was also involved in the assault on American rebels. (Yes, am a Canadian and that war was unnecessary, but I digress.) But, that was an aside. We wish to explore his background further in the future. In the communion of the saints, the invisible church and visible church, gathered around King Jesus, Bishop Malcolm speaks to all Anglicans and Presbyterians; we'd add Baptists and all others too. He joins with others from around the world and across denominational jurisdictions. The subject of the purity and impurity of the churches, sometimes more, sometimes less are sub-textual but present. Reference to the CoE are, of course, made including the sodomites and other lawless sinners. Sensible, deliberative, scholarly, thoughtful and, indeed, refreshing in the communion of saints--he shares his insights and persona as a gift to us by which we were and are blessed. He brings love, privately between the two of us, but publicaly to 5500 in our outreach. If interested in high Reformed Theology with the old Book of Common Prayer, this is a warrantable listen. Such is our fellowship and sharing. I can't recommend him more highly. We touched up early 20th century modernism, Graff-Wellhausenism and OT studies, Anglo-Catholics (briefly), the English 1928 BCP, evangelical repentance unto life, evangelical saving faith, justification by faith alone and Christ alone, the doctrine of original sin with occasional references to "Reformed Theology" and the "doctrines of grace." It's everything an ARPer, PCAer, OPCer, RECer (the old ones not generation 5 so much), FCEer (old FCEers), FCE-ECer, URCNAer, UEPCNAer or FCoS Continer could wish for. It's called LBE. LBE = Leadership by Example, an old Marine phrase. We get LBE from this Captain on the Bridge. "The Captain's on the bridge." He also recommended Dr. Jake Griesel's book on John Edwards, a 17th century Reformed Anglican (we hope to interview Jake who did his doctoral work at Cambridge and published it through OUP.) We had about 20 questions and finished about 0.25-0.5 of question 1. He is clearly a VOICE for Reformed Prayer Book Churchmen with "high theology" on the top floor, not the basement without windows. Warrantable for all Reformed Churchmen (including the small group of Reformed Anglicans).
For Sailors, Soldier, Airmen, Marines and all veterans. We could use this as a study model for a 1-hour unit, something this scribe was known for. You'll meet Jesus Christ in the video. We teach. You decide. No gimmicks, not trinkets, night club Christian worship or other hooks, just Bible, the sovereign Book.
One more note: the Bishop's opening prayer models Reformed Prayer Book Churchmanship. Prof. B.B. Warfield tells the story of an American Commander, a Colonel, who interviewed a young solider. The Colonel asked if he was a Westminster boy and was catechetized. The Lad said "Yes." The Colonel said, "I can tell." Likewsie, as for the Bishop Malcolm, he's shaped and formed in Prayer Book Churchmanship by a long lineage and by his constancy in our good BCP. It's LBE. Wonderful to hear and join with him in his prayer to His Triune Majesty. He blesses listeners.
"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence if His glory with exceeding joy; to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever." Jude 24-25.
