Morning Prayer and the Litany (1662 Book of Common Prayer)
For
Theology Proper, Prof. Reymond discusses scia media and Molinism, a doctrine
embraced by Jesuits, Socinus, Lutherans, and Arminians, as an effort to avoid
divine omniscience and divine foreordination.
For
Soteriology, Prof. Berkhof gives the Scriptural texts for the “perseverance of
the saints.”
For
Apostolic Christianity, Vol. 1 (0-100) Prof. Schaff discusses the varied
datings of the Nativity in history. 25 Dec was a 4th century dating
that took root in the West.
For
Medieval Christianity, Vol. 4 (590-1073), Prof. Schaff brings down to 988 AD the
Christianization of Russia, opting for Constantinople over Rome.
For
the Swiss Reformation Vol. 8 (1519-1605), Prof. Schaff discusses Geneva in the
orbit of Swiss politics with other cities and cantons.
EDT
on Process Theology: one hears a modern version of Heraclitean change with the
emphasis on the “primacy of becoming” and stressing the quality of feeling of
every entity from God to atoms (panpsychism). God is “becoming.” Get that new
2022 BMW and turn in that 1926 Ford Model-T version of God. How cool is that,
bro?
For
the Creeds of Christendom, Prof. Schaff outlines the subjects over 4 schemes
covering the several months of Vatican 1. Ultimately, they get around to telling
us of Papal Infallibility (like Pentecostal prophets) speaking “new words” of
revelation and denying the closed canon. Of note, during the Council, the Council
of Trent was reaffirmed. I guess that deep-sixes ecumenicity, although the
mangled, mixed and maimed Protestant demythologizers might be able to dance
across the Romanist ballroom. ??.
1994 CCC:
telling us that Revelation is final in and through Jesus, the Curia then opens
the door to revelation via “Tradition.” The Reformed hawk has grabbed that
Romish rabbit.
Westminster Larger Catechism 108:
Q. 108. What are the duties
required in the second commandment?
A. The duties required in the second commandment are, the receiving, observing,
and keeping pure and entire, all such religious worship and ordinances as God
hath instituted in his word; particularly prayer and thanksgiving in the name
of Christ; the reading, preaching, and hearing of the word; the administration
and receiving of the sacraments; church government and discipline; the ministry
and maintenance thereof; religious fasting; swearing by the name of God, and
vowing unto him: as also the disapproving, detesting, opposing, all false
worship; and, according to each one's place and calling, removing it, and all
monuments of idolatry.
