Trinity Journal (TEDS, Spring 2022): in “The Ancient Church Calendar,” Dr. Philip Derstine wonks out on the calendar including resumption of Temple services under Ezra. Some wonky dating issue. PRACTICAL: hardly no practical value.
Anglican and Episcopal History (June 2022): BOOK REVIEW: “Trauma and Survival in the Contemporary Church” by Jonathan Loft (ed.). Discusses the violence against Irish Anglicans in the 19th century forcing them to flee to Canada. PRACTICAL: not sure, other than to be thankful for our freedoms.
Anglican and Episcopal History (June 2022): in “Anglicanism, the Lambeth Conferences, and International Relations in the Twentieth Century,” Dr. ANDREW CHANDLER discusses LCs of the 1950s-1960s with no notable advance on earlier points.
Table Talk (August 2022): discusses female servants/slaves, marriage, redemption, dowries, and inheritance rights. PRACTICAL VALUE: see the underlying laws and the predicates to case law.
Table Talk (September 2022): “The Doctrine of Man:” outlines the value of humans made in God’s image. Respect all. PRACTICAL: respect all irrespective of ethnicity, gender, or any other qualifier.
Standard Bearer: (July 2022): in “Answer a fool…do not answer a fool,” Prof. Greiss offers a cogent analysis of a fool in Proverbs. When does one address a fool as defined by Proverbs? PRACTICAL: warrants meditation—when to speak and when not to speak.
Standard Bearer (August 2022): in “The Commitment of Silas, Mr. Bruinooge comments on Acts 15.40, Silas being chosen by Paul for ministry. PRACTICAL: we'll see.
Bibliotheca Sacra (Jan-Mar 2021): in “A Chronology of the Life of Christ with Emphasis on the Nativity and Epiphany,” Kurt Simmons, J.D., wonks away. PRACTICAL: none.
