Theological Journals
Modern Reformation (Jan/Feb 22), in “Controversial
Theology,” Joshua Schendel offers a 30th anniversary review of MR—committed
to thinking while many seek fun, amusement and entertainment in worship.
Westminster
Theological Journal (Nov 2021, 275-297): “The Reformers and the Descendit Clause,”
Rev. Joe Mock offers a review of Calvin’s views, to wit, Christ experiences in
body and soul the harrowings of hell.
Mid-America
Journal of Theology (Fall 2021, 7-34): in “Verbal, Plenary Inspiration, and
Bible Translation Method,” Mr. Josiah Walters is struggling to make his case
against “word-for-word, literal” translation methods. Contra Phil Ryken and
Wayne Grudem. Nice try son.
Anglican
& Episcopal History (Sept 2014), in “Ecclesiology of Prayer Book
Illustrations,” Posey Krakowski discusses more illustrations in the four BCPs,
noting that the 1774 reflects changed political circumstances for England and
its Empire.
Churchman
(Winter 2018): in “A Defense of Penal, Substitutionary Atonement and Divine
Justice," Cheryl Ritskes offers a nice overview of the issues. Clearly, a
lost article more largely in the 20th-21st century. Very
nice.
Protestant Reformed Theological
Journal 55,1 (Fall, 2021, pages 44-79): “’Committing the Truth to Faith Men’:
Centennial History of the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary,” Douglas
Kuiper comments further on PRTS’s history, library and meeting places.
Reformed Theological Journal (Sept
2021), in “Justification and Christian Life,” Michael Horton comments on Calvin’s
view of Trent, justification and assurance of salvation.
Southwestern
Theological Journal (Fall 2021), in “The Gospel of John and the Johannine Epistles,”
Dr. Andrea Kostenberger is working the Exodus environment in John’s mind. Point
noted and taken.
The Biblical Repertory/Princeton
Review (Volume 9, Issue
1, 1837, pages 29ff.). James Waddel Archibald review Paul Henry’s
“The Life of John Calvin, the Great Reformer” (Vol. 1, 1835). Rev. Archibald comments
on Calvin’s touching letter to Farel at the loss of the elderly, saintly and
fiery Roucard.
Concordia
Theological Journal (Winter 2020), “Luther and Bonhoeffer on the Sermon on the
Mount: Similar Tasks, Different Tools,” Dr. Theodore Hopkins is long-talking in
circles, unhelpfully.
Princeton Theological Review (Vol.22,
No.1, Spring 2019), in “Maximus the Confessor and the Lateran Synod of 649, and
the Problem of Religious Authority,” Matthew Neumanm comments on Maximus’s
conflicts with Constantinople and the Emperor’s authority.
Themelios (Dec 2021): in “What Makes
a “Good” Church? Reflections on A Church Called Tov,” Brian J. Tabb plies McKnight’s
volume, agreeing about celebrity preacher culture, e.g. Hybels and MacDonald.
