Morning Prayer (1662 Book of Common Prayer)

John Calvin on the Psalms. Keil & Delitzsch on Joshua. Matthew Henry on Jude. Dr. Robert Reymond on Systematic Theology. Dr. Philip Schaff on the Swiss Reformation, namely, Ulrich Zwingli. Westminster Shorter Catechism, 1-10. Calvin on Psalm 2.5: "Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord." Calvin believes David is directing his speech to the hypocrites and tabernacle-attendees who yet are opposing God's Messiah, God's Anointed. Meanwhile, the Ark of the Covenant and the Shekinah Presence of the LORD has left Shiloh. Hence, David calls the hypocrites to shed the fake exterior and come with true worshipping hearts and minds. SNOWFLAKE ALERT FOR POSTMODERN CRYBABIES. On Joshua 2.7-14, Prof. Keil addresses the "fear and despair" that befalls the Canaanites who understand that God is with the Israelites. They know a brutal smackdown is coming from the holy, omnipotent, eternal, just, wise and holy hand of the God of Moses and Joshua. Matthew Henry wraps up Jude on the noble benediction. Jude 24-25: "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen." For systematic theology, Prof. Reymond continues to break arms and kneecap the Barthian-types, including Archbishop Willy Temple (1942-44). Willy does not believe in the Scripture's plenary, verbal inspiration on grounds that the writers may have misrepresented God's Word. Prof. Reymond quotes Willy the ABC from his book "Nature, God and Man,' to wit, that given the proclivity to misrepresent Willy's ideas, hence, Willy's book cannot communicate Willy's views. After breaking both of Barth's arms, he kneecaps the Archbishop. (Willy, at the end of life, confessed he had sinned in idolizing Anglicanism. That still happens today, to wit, those crying, "The Temple! The Temple!" This while their hearts err and while their hearts are far from Him.) Prof. Schaff speaks of Zwingli's preaching and reception--very favorable--in Zurich. He cites Bullinger's description of Zwingli as a man. One conclusion and takeaway--do you own thinking on Zwingli with high cautions for commentators on Zwingli, especially the Lutherans.
