April 30, 1943 Rear Admiral
Leonard W. Murray, RCN, Flag Officer Atlantic Coast (FOAC), takes control of
all allied shipping in the western North Atlantic as Commander in Chief
(C-IN-C) Canadian North West Atlantic.
Admiral Murray is the only Canadian officer to have ‘Commander-in-Chief’
status during the Second World War.
