Cranmer Studies
Rev. Dr. Gerald Bray, “Documents of the English Reformation:” Tyndale talks of the value, purpose and effects of Bible reading (36).
Rev. Dr. Philip Edgcumbe Hughes, “Theology of English Reformers:” even in the Tower, Latimer was still preaching to any and all. The Bible was in his bones and marrow of his bones.
Margot Johnson’s “Thomas Cranmer: 500th Commemoration of his Birth:” discusses "source-criticism," "form-criticism," and "redaction criticism" as applied to the Bible, Shakespeare and the BCP (128).
Diarmaid McCulloch’s “Thomas Cranmer:” Prof. Mac comments on the dispute between Crum and Cram over Cleves. Cram believes Henry needs an English girl to his own liking. Cram was the Cleves-girl for political advantages (258). Cram had the better insight. On the other hand, marriages were often geopolitical bargaining chips.
Leslie Williams’ “Emblem of Faith Untouched: A Short Life of Thomas Cranmer:” Williams finishes describing the bullet train from Anne in the tower to Jane as Queen in the Abbey, a 6-week trip.
Ridley, Jaspar. "Thomas Cranmer:" We hear of Cranmer’s involvement with the burning of a 15-year old boy for his criticism of the bone-munchy-cruncher view of the Eucharist and criticism over the burning of Robert Barnes. Ridley tries to exonerate Cranmer since this was a “merely routine administrative affair.” This happens while Harry is on a progress and while Cranmer and Audley are running things in London (218). Also, Reformers are unhappy with Cranmer. Bullinger gets word of Cranmer’s complicity in homicide (our word).
