We've reached the mountain peak with Prof. Anthony and one can now see the slightly lower mountains peaks in all directions--that is, the 24 chapters by illustratious commentators on Anglicanism covering this 142-year period. However, rather abruptly, we read of euphemisms for Laudianism and have a charley-horse between the ears. There will be NO chapter on Laudianism. What? Are you kidding? How can we restrain our laughter? Is that appropriate Calling Laudians "avante-garde conformists," what's with that novelty? Will we get a chapter on the Synod of Dordt? If not, why not? And Arminianism? If not, why not? (Perhaps with Steve Hampton and a reread there will refresh dormant neurons). Inquirers have lawful questions. We're waiting. Does one need to go do a doctorate/hang out at Cambridge to get some answers here? How, pray tell, do you airbrush Laudianism out of the narrative? Are we seeing "non-theological historical work" here rather than "th...

Dr. Cranmer arrives in Ratisbon ( = Regensburg, an ancient Imperial City) and Nuremburg also. 1532. Cranmer has a "secret meeting" with Spalatin, legal advisor to Frederick of Saxony and close friend of Martin Luther. Why the secrecy? Well, Dr. Cranmer, do you have an explanation? And good Sir, what did you discuss with Mr. Spalatin? Surely, it was about the color of the drapes. Soleiman's intended invasion up the Danube? Charles V? Henry's marriage? Or/and, what of the theology, Dr. Cranmer? And Dr. Cranmer, who let the cat out of the bag about your "secret meeting?" Also, did you attend Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral in Regensburg, still a Papist city? These and other questions are pending assessment. What does Cranmer know? When does he know it? What does he believe? How does this second ambassadorial mission to Charles V's court affect the English Reformation? Does he have books with him in his travels? Inquiring minds are asking.
