Article VIII—Of the Three Creeds.
The three Creeds,
Nicene Creed, Athanasius’s Creed, and that which is commonly called the
Apostles’ Creed, ought thoroughly to be received and believed: for they may be
proved by most certain warrants of Holy Scripture.
Nowell’s Catechism –
“Why is it called the symbol” (or creed) “of the Apostles? Because it was
first received from the Apostles’ own mouth, or most faithfully gathered out of
their writings, and allowed from the very beginning of the Church, and so hath
continually remained among all the godly, firm, steadfast, and unmoved, as a
sure and staid rule of Christian faith.” – Catechism.
