Friedrich A. G. Tholuck (1799 to 1877)
Lutheran
Steadfast Opponent of So-Called "Rationalism."

Friedrich A. G. Tholuck was born at Breslau, Germany. In 1826 he became Lutheran professor of dogmatics and exegesis at the University of Halle, where he taught until his death 51 years later. A steadfast opponent of rationalism in Biblical and theological studies, he published commentaries on John, Romans, Hebrews and the Psalms, and wrote several other books. Tholuck, through his connection with the revival movement of that time, did much to further the cause of conservative Biblical scholarship in his day.
